The Nanoose people (Coast Salish) of Vancouver Island B.C. welcome your presence to our online website! Please rest your minds and fingers to learn about this beautiful Coast Salish Nation and the activities that drive its people.

The land the Nanoose people occupy is 54 hectares, with a population fluctuation around 200+ living on-reserve . Amongst 19+ bands we are Coast Salish Descendents of the Vancouver/Vancouver Island area. We also share a diealect with many other tribes along the East Coast of Vancouver Island which is called Hul'q'umi'num'. With varying dialect pronunciations we are striving to revive as much of this cultural aspect as possible.

LAND CODE

Nanoose First Nation and the people that make it successful have begun the process of developing a Land Code; to take jurisdiction over the land they occupy, and to start the grass roots process of self governance. Canada will hold title to the land, but only the Nanoose First Nation people will take authority in managing those lands. Once we ratify this motion we will replace the Land Management Provisions of the Indian Act; The content of the Land Code will be developed by the Nanoose people, typically by way of a Land Committee and on-going meetings to further clarify the true purpose of the jurisdiction they are working for

YOUTH COUNCIL

The Nanoose First Nation youth have established amongst themselves an advisory council, creating a voice for the Nanoose youth, and paving a pathway towards a successful future for the children of the Nanoose people. With strong minds and an abundance of talent and aptitude between them the future of Nanoose shows great potential, these leaders have shown great initiative! The Nanoose First Nation is very supportive of their endeavors, and show great support for them, we look forward to culminations and success stories for many years to come! Good Luck.
