The First Nations people in Snaw'Naw'As (Nanoose) are Coast Salish descendents; they occupy a small base of land located in Nanoose Bay B.C. in the North Western portion of the Salish Sea. Although our main village site is located on the westside of Nanoose Bay, throughout history we understand that we have many village sites in and around this protected bay, and further north of our current village site.

Our sacred connection to the lands we call home has allowed us to sustain ourselves for many generations, and we continue to thrive for the benefit of our children. We have strong ties to our natural environment and continue to maintain sacred relations with the sacred beings that occupy this territory with us.

Through historical accounts we have learned much about our place in society as Coast Salish people; we continue to balance our cultural practice with business ethic in modern times and always ensure we respect the teachings handed down from many generations.

We share a dialect with our partner tribes along Vancouver Island, and Mainland called Hul'q'umi'num', with many varying aspects of this native tongue we fight to ensure its survival for our childrens grand-children & the future. We as a people have strong ties to the land and through our spiritual connection we possess beautiful traditions, and cultures that reflect our history as a first nations people.
