Snaw'Naw'As Land Code Committee

The work being done by a Lands Committee is in its second year of a 2 year process funded through Indian Northern Affairs Canada, the Land Code Process which was implimented when 14 First Nations decided to opt out the the Lands Management provisions within the Indian Act, and take control over their own land.

Snaw'Naw'As people seek jurisdication and lands management of their own territories, through completion of this process they have the capabilities to do so; Tom Bob Jr. (Lands Manager) has sought after the Land Code for over 7-8 years, and now being developed his hard work and dedication will pay off once the people of Snaw'Naw'As ratify this document.

There have been 3/4 community meetings, and bi-weekly meetings held every month to complete this document, each committee member represents a branch of the 5 member families within Snaw'Naw'As, so full family representation is seen and heard.

They've been working closely with the affiliates of the Lands Advisory Board, INAC and other member nations who have gone operational, meetings with Burrard (Tsleil-Watuth), meetings in Seattle, and other nations have all proven successful and the nation feels strong in knowing the fact that other nations are warm and willing to help.

Congratulations to Snaw'Naw'As Lands Department and the Land Code Committee towards the development and the success to come from attaining this jurisdiction for your community, and the future of your people.
