ELECTORAL OFFICER Electoral Officer The Electoral Officer shall be appointed by the Snaw’naw’as First Nation Government through the execution of a Band Council Resolution:
The Snaw’naw’as First Nation Council will appoint an individual to the office of Electoral Officer that:
The Electoral Officer must sign an Oath of Office and Confidentiality and accept the Electoral by forwarding a letter of acceptance to the Snaw’naw’as First Nation Council. Duties of the Electoral Officer (1) The Electoral Officer’s duties include: (a) preparing a general list of members of the Nanoose First Nation and maintaining a current list; (b) preparing a list of members of each individual Family in Schedule "A" and maintaining a current list; (c) developing rules for nominations and elections of the Suw’en Sci’em and Spokesperson for each Family; (d) supervising the nominations and elections of Family Polls; (e) declaring and appointing successful Suw’en Sci’em and Spokespersons to the Band Council; (f) swearing in and arranging for such swearing of the said successful Council members after Family Electorals or elections. PREPARATION OF VOTERS’ LISTS BY THE ELECTORAL OFFICER Preparation of List (1) The Electoral Officer shall prepare the membership list for the Snaw’naw’as First Nation and a membership for each Family containing the names, in alphabetical order, of all eligible voters for the Snaw’naw’as First Nation and for each of the said Families. The Electoral Officer will ensure that prior to any nomination date, the said list is complete and accurate and he shall post copies of the membership list in two conspicuous places in the community of the Snaw’naw’as First Nation fourteen (14) days prior to any nomination meeting and he will post one of such copies of the membership list in the Band Council office. (2) The Electoral Officer shall post at the same locations or at the same time, the membership list which shows the division of members by Family groupings. Revisions to List (1) Any member may apply to have the membership list revised on the grounds that the name of the member is incorrectly set out therein in or if the name of a person not qualified to vote is included therein and make representations of such a nature, in writing, to the Electoral Officer. Review of List (1) All members of every Family will review the said membership list of the Snaw’naw’as First Nations and the membership list of the Family and indicate, in writing, any errors or corrections to be made within seven (7) days of the posting of that list. |
