Prepare to Play

Snaw'Naw'As Playground Project

The youth, youth group, community and leadership of Snaw'Naw'As are standing together to assist in new developments of a playground in a 2 acre site located on Si-em Heights on the upper reserve. Proposals are going out and fundraising drives have begun as the youth embark on new beginnings geared towards a healthier and more physically active lifestyle.

As First Nations move forward in developments and other capital projects it becomes more evident that the need for lands becomes a reality, however this chunk of land targeted specifically for youth driven initiatives will make a successful playground for many generations to come.

Local youth from Dover Bay have begun to initiate community contact and support from local businesses as the project moves further along, all youth meetings have brought forth great ideas as we impliment the dreams of the youth and the children.

TRUE SPORT COMMUNITY FUND

Recently a proposal was submitted to the True Sport Community Fund, website, for a possible $25,000.00 towards the efforts of developing a successful playground. We are in high hopes of securing a successful application, last year 12 communities achieved a successful grant for $25,000.00 with 45 successful candidates receiving $5,000.00 grants.

Nautsa Ma:wt Tribal Council

The Snaw'Naw'As Nation would like to extend our hands in gratitude to NmTC for their support of $1,500.00, we greatly appreciate your support and look forward to future sponsorships from various businesses to whom we've reached out too.

Recreation Infrastructure Canada Fund

Currently being sought after is the Recreation Infrastructure Canada Fund, website, which is a new infrastructure fund that will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. This national initiative will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.

The Snaw'Naw'As Nation will strive for success in the development of this monumental task, the physical lifestyle, and active well being of their children are cornerstones to healthy futures, through development of this playground we plan to engage sports excellence. Should you or anyone you know be willing to sponsor or donate any financial contributions to this highly meaningful endeavor, please feel free to contact Lawrence Mitchell 250-390-3661, or email at administrator@nanoose.org.
