Timeline & Accomplishments

  1. We have met four times during 2008 to discuss community concerns and visions for the future
  2. Became involved with the British Columbia Aboriginal Youth Council -Female Rep: Melanie Bob, Male Rep: *Lawrence Mitchell (Vacancy Available ) - *No Longer Eligible
  3. Youth Council representatives have attended
    • Chief and council meetings
    • Aboriginal Health Conference
    • Shared Traditional Territory Ceremony (Tsawassen)
    • Visits at Dover Bay Secondary school
  • Unified Aboriginal Youth Collective - Unity in Action Leadership Conference
  • Community 2 Community Forum w/ Lantzville City Mayor/Councillors
  1. Nanoose Youth Council supported/fundraised Dover Bay High students and their school field trip (Toronto) and hosted a dinner for (Toronto guests) at Tsow Tun Le lum.
  2. Securing use of an office at the Band hall.
  3. Consulted with elders at luncheons to discuss protocols and history
  4. Building a relationship with community police to address issues that were raised during NFN Youth Council meetings.
  5. Blanketted by community for purposes of protection at local x-mas dinner
  6. Started process of becoming a Non-Profit Society
  7. Acquired a seat on Land Code Committee - Creating Land Code Document
  8. Instrumental in assisting with development of Welcoming Figure (Nanoose Bay)
  9. Offered a proposal writing workshop presented by Sandra Willie (Kingcome)

Plans for 2009

  1. Continued efforts to learn and prepare for leadership in Snaw Naw As
  2. Open Youth office at the community hall. This office will have resources, job postings and more.
  3. Snaw Naw As Community Vision project to learn what community members envision for our community.
