Thi Kwasun Youth Group

The youth groups initial development occured in early 2000, with 4 enthusiastic workers fresh from Rediscovery training at Pearson College they started up this tentative Rediscovery location. Without a place to call its home, the Rediscovery Camp had to change its name to Youth Group status.

Thanks to Sheena Edwards and Corey Bob it now has a recognized Charitable name as Thi Kwasun (Big Star), The Youth of the community voted on the name but also had a Logo Competition within the community (Alice Sampson - Winner)

Programming includes:

• Arts & Crafts - for various occasions such as X-Mas, or Valentines, Halloween etc. there are many different activities that take place, and art/craft sessions take place
• Seed/Tree planting - along with the Community Garden Director Vanessa Bob the youth were able to plant trees, and seedlings, Watch out for more planting with Vanessa in the future!
• Various Fundraisers always occur - some that have been held in the past include: Chili/Bake Sale, Bottle Drives, Lasagna Dinner Delivery
• Homework Club - Various people have lent a hand in tutoring youth in their educational efforts.
• Movie Nights - movie nights being held - please check your local newsletter!

Equipment Available

There are a variety of Thi Kwasun equipment available for usage by the youth such things include:

• Computer - Internet is made available to the youth, also printing capabilities, there are 5 computers available provided by the Education Dept.
• Pool Table - Donated by administration - the Thi Kwasun Youth group now has a 4'x8' snooker pool table for use by the youth
• Juke Box - Thi Kwasun has received a Juke Box for usage by youth while attending Rec Center gatherings!
• Library - Many books have been donated to the youthgroup for usage by the children! There are a variety of educational, and pleasure reading available!
• T.V./DVD/VCR - need access to these functions there is a 53' inche TV available for usage, as well as DVD/VCR to use.
• Sewing Machine - We have the usage of a sewing machine for kids to learn to SEW! Come join us, please check your local newsletter!!
